Indications for Master thesis

The academic committee of the master has approved the ASSESSMENT CRITERIA for the evaluation of the master thesis.

Master thesis must include at least a critical and comprehensive review of the literature and a research proposal to answer to a specific research question. To obtain a better mark, master thesis must also include an original contribution of the candidate to answer a specific research question like theoretical or empirical contribution, qualitative and/or qualitative analysis, field data collection, etc.

The document provides details of the competencies to be evaluated by the evaluation committee and an example for each competencies of the marks that could be obtained according to the achievement level reached by the student.

The Committee will submit a report for each student with a grade agreed by the whole commission that will result from the average of the grades issued by the three evaluators. The Committee may propose in a motivated separate act a distinction for a Master Thesis that have obtained the highest score.

In order to deposit the Master thesis, the student must have approved 70% of the credits they enrolled (BEFORE the deposit’s time). All Master Thesis will be written and presented in English languageThe format or template to present the Master thesis is now available at the Master’s webpage.

Supervisors are required to check the degree of plagiarism by Ephorus TURNITIN application and to indicate the results in the report that allows the master thesis defense.

Viva dates are July 15th for the first call and September 21th for the second call.
Students may deliver all the documentation (see guidelines) at least 15 days before the date set for the viva (deadline July 5th for the first call).

Before each call, students will be informed about the specific hour and place for the viva by email.

Dear students,

We invite you on Thursday, May 19, at the Aula Magna of the School of Economic and Business (University of Granada) to attend the meetings about the postgraduate's offer available for the academic year 2016 / 2017. SEMINAR: "The Role of Global Value Chains During the Crisis: Evidence from Spanish and European Firms" joint With Marcell Jansen. Aranzazu Crespo (Middlesex University, UK). 

Aranzazu Crespo is Assistant Professor at the University of Middlesex. Her research focuses on international trade, economic development, competitiveness and economic policy. She has been Max Weber fellow at the European University Institute. She holds a PhD  in Economics from the Carlos III University of Madrid in June 2013 under the supervision of Professor Klaus Desmet.

This seminar focuses on the role played by global value chains in the European debt crisis as well as political challenges facing Spain. To do this, Aranzazu Crespo will provide a comparative analysis of Spanish exports, identifying the industries whose shares of value added are more important and, finally, she analyzes the capacity of global value chains to amplify or stabilize the economic crisis.


This seminar will be taught in the classroom D011 of the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales on Tuesday 17 at 10.30.

SEMINAR: José Javier Domínguez Ramírez Departamento de Teoría e Historia Económica, Universidad de Granada Economistas sin Fronteras 

José Javier Domínguez is a PhD student of Economic Analysis Area at University of Granada and ex-alumni of Master in Economics 2013/2014. His research involves the study of discriminatory behaviors based on prejudices and stereotypes on educational environments through an experimental methodology. His first investigation is framed on his master thesis that was selected with a third prize of the international contest New Economic Talent 2015. He belongs to research area of Economists without Borders Foundation through which is developed the project that present in the seminar and that is funded by Agencia Andaluza de Cooperación Internacional al Desarrollo.

The project that presents has the main goal on the study of discriminatory attitudes on educational environments. Based on an experimental methodology, it is tried to extract the main economic preferences such as altruism, selfishness or egalitarianism. However, the goal of this research is not only the determination of the distribution of the preferences but check if economic behavior differs when people are interacting with other-cultural people showing the existence of prejudices and stereotypes and its impact on economic behavior.

Seminar: “Parametric and non parametric tests for research in management and economics”. Snježana Pivac University of Split (Croatia).


Snježana Pivac is Full Professor at the University of Split, Croatia. She has a bachelor degree in Economics, and she also holds a Master and a PhD degree in Economics by the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
Her main research interests are focused on Quantitative Methods in Economic Analysis,  Quantitative Analysis in Management, Financial Management, Financial Modeling, Multivariate and Multicriteria Methods. She has also published in several international journals such as International Journal of Social, Education, Economics and Management Engineering, Croatian Operational Research Review, and Panoeconomicus.

Actually,  Snježana Pivac is member of the Executive Committee of Croatian Operational Research Society,  member of Croatian Statistical Association and member of American Statistical Association.
She has also founded the journal “Croatian Operational Research Review” and she has collaborated in the development of the international encyclopaedia of statistical science “Springer's International Encyclopaedia of Statistical Sciences”.

The topics of this seminar are research (scientific) hypothesis and statistical hypothesis testing, non-parametric tests, independent samples and related samples. She will also present some  examples using SPSS software.
